When your computer won’t start up, it is most likely one of two things; one, your screen is burnt out, or two, your power supply is out. David Stuppy had this very same problem, so he visited Kansas City’s computer shop. His computer was not starting up and not knowing what to do he visited the Kansas City’s computer experts. He was informed that his computer’s power supply was out but not to worry his computer would be taken care of in no time.
If you encounter this problem, and you do not know what is wrong with your computer, you can always test it at home before deciding what to do. Testing a power supply is an important step when troubleshooting many issues, most obviously when your computer is having trouble starting. A failing power supply can often be the cause of problems you might not expect, like random lockups, and spontaneous reboots.
A power supply is actually the most common piece of hardware to fain in a computer. Here is how to test it to see if there is a failure.
You can test a power supply manually with a multimeter or test it using a power supply tester. The only tools needed are a screwdriver and a multimeter, both of which you likely already have. If you don’t own a multimeter, you can usually find a basic one at any major retailer for around $20 USD or you can find one online if you don’t mind waiting a few days. Testing a power supply with a power supply tester is a safer than testing one manually. A power supply tester lets you stay a bit more removed from the electricity than with a multimeter test.
If these tests bear no results it would be advised to visit your local tech as soon as possible.
