I was out on the beat yesterday and I decided it had been a while since I had savored something from one of the area’s local food truck vendors. With a growling gut I consulted Google as to what my options were. Beholden to me there is a website dedicated to helping you find food truck vendors in different cities all across the country! The site www.roaminghunger.com has a list of food truck vendors in Kansas City, as well as the capability to locate in real time where food trucks are stationed across the metro area. After seeing all my options I decided to find Gary’s On The Go BBQ, which was currently stationed at 11th and Jefferson poised above the West Bottoms near Ermine Case Jr. Park.
As I parked my car, you could smell the slow cooked meats wafting out of his truck on down the street tempting those who passed by. Gary’s On The Go BBQ features a variety of gut busting BBQ Kansas City craves, including huge Angus burgers, pulled pork sandwiches and the newly introduced grilled chicken wrap. I had my mind set on a pulled pork sandwich as soon as I saw it on the menu. I hoped to see some of Gary’s other menu items but everyone in front of me in line ordered a pulled pork sandwich as well. That fact at least made me confident in my decision to go with the pulled pork.
Gary truly knows how to make a meal that you should plan a nap after! If you like your pulled pork soft and smokey but with some larger pieces to tear into then Gary’s On The Go BBQ has you covered. The pork was rocking and was perfectly paired with some of Gary’s delicious sweet potato fries. I tried to put down the whole sandwich but I just couldn’t do it. You might plan on taking some back to the office with you but you’ll have to find a good stash spot in your refrigerator because left unattended you can bet your leftovers will grow legs and disappear. Gary is on the go like the namesake says, so if you want to find him, hit him up @garysonthegobbq.
